It all started with a single tweet. Tamika, the visionary founder of AAMBC Inc., sent out a blast on Twitter, calling out to writers and creatives. Little did I know that this seemingly ordinary message would catalyze a transformative journey.
As fate would have it, my boyfriend spotted Tamika’s tweet and took a chance by reaching out in the comments on my behalf. Tamika, with her unwavering belief in the power of giving chances, decided to take a leap of faith in a stranger with little to no experience.
From that point forward, my life became a whirlwind of learning, growth, and creative exploration. As a screenwriter intern, I soaked up every opportunity to absorb knowledge like a sponge, surrounded by a community of passionate individuals who shared a common love for storytelling.
Fast forward to today, and I find myself in awe of the journey that has unfolded. I’ve transitioned from a novice screenwriter intern to a seasoned ghostwriter for passionate Black novelists and a skilled screenplay writer. The trust and support extended to me by Tamika and the AAMBC Inc. community have been instrumental in shaping my professional path.
Along the way, I’ve not only honed my writing skills but also delved into new arenas. From mastering writing software to contributing articles to the AAMBC Journal on Medium, I’ve discovered the joy of expanding my horizons as a writer and communicator.
Beyond the confines of my initial role, I’ve embraced the challenge of research and development for projects, relishing the thrill of watching ideas materialize into tangible creations. As a photographer and talent manager at the Black Writer’s Weekend, I’ve had the privilege of capturing moments of raw creativity and talent, creating memories that will forever be etched in my heart.
A pinnacle moment in my journey with AAMBC Inc. was the opportunity to travel to Texas to film and photograph the documentary centered around Tamika’s journey to healing with her family. Witnessing her story unfold was not only a professional achievement but a profoundly moving experience. Through this journey, I learned the power of bravery in forging closer bonds with estranged family members. Tamika’s unwavering support and encouragement have been instrumental in my growth, both as a creative and as an individual.
As I look ahead, I am eager to embrace the future with open arms, knowing that this journey with AAMBC Inc. is far from over. With renewed enthusiasm, I eagerly anticipate the chapters yet to be written, knowing that the journey is just as valuable as the destination.
